Romans 10:13-15 reads, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?” So we must know the plan of salvation and how to teach it to others.
Just as there are physical laws that govern the physical universe, so are there spiritual laws that govern our relationship with God. We must know this, believe it, know how to backup what we say with scripture, and teach them to others.
- First: God loves us and offers a wonderful plan for our lives and we must know how to explain God’s love and plan.
God’s Love
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16)
God’s Plan
I came that they might have life and that they may have it more abundantly – (meaning that it might be full and meaningful.) (John 10:10)
- Second: The reason that most people are not experiencing that abundant life is that man is sinful and separated from God. Therefore, he cannot know and experience God’s love and plan for his life.
Man is sinful
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23)
Man was created to have fellowship with God, but because Adam and Eve sinned by breaking God’s commandment, their fellowship with God was broken. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners; by one man's offence death reigned for all. (Rom. 5:17, 19)
Man is Separated
The wages of sin is death (Spiritual separation from God) (Rom. 6:23)
- Third: Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s sin. Through Him we can know and experience God’s love and plan for our lives.
He Died In Our Place
But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Rom. 5:8)
He Rose From The Dead
Christ died for our sins. He was buried. He was raised on the third day, according to the scriptures. He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than 500. (I Cor. 15:3-6)
He is the only Way to God
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me. (John 14:6)
- Fourth: We must individually experience the saving grace of God as He works in the lives of those who are to be saved, convicting them of sin and giving them the faith to believe the Gospel. Then we can know and experience God’s love and plan for our lives through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Salvation Is A Free Gift
For by grace ye are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Eph. 2: 8, 9)
If men are saved it is because of the direct intervention of God. The regeneration of the soul must be the exclusive and supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. Salvation is by grace alone.
Receive Christ
But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believed on his name. (John 1:12)
The Experience Of Christ Is The New Birth
The story of Nicodemus and his encounter with Jesus, resulted in Jesus telling him, “Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:1-8)
We Receive Christ Through Faith
That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shall believe in thine heart that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)
Receiving Christ through faith involves turning to God and trusting Christ who freely comes into our lives to forgive our sins and to make us what He wants us to be.
It is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (Phil. 2:13)
Just to believe intellectually that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for our sins is not enough. Nor is it enough to have an emotional experience or believe that we can except or receive Christ as an act of our own will. We receive Jesus Christ by faith, not as an act of our own will but according to the will of God.
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. (John 15:16)
